Glossary: Analyse Platform Terminology
This glossary covers essential and advanced terminology used in the Analyse platform, designed to help users understand platform functionality, navigate data confidently, and build meaningful insights from online customer conversations.
Dashboard
A visual workspace for analysing your data. Dashboards consist of customisable sections and metrics and can be created, edited, or duplicated to track performance trends and customer insights.
Section
A segment within a dashboard that houses a group of metrics. Sections can have individual filters, making them ideal for comparing different data segments within the same dashboard.
Metric
A visualisation of a specific dataset. Metrics include bar charts, pie charts, word clouds, tables, topic wheels, and sentiment graphs.
Drill Down
An interactive filter that lets users segment a section dynamically—e.g., toggle between brands, topics, or time periods—without altering the dashboard’s master filters.
Filter
Tools to narrow down your data by:
- General Tab: Date, sentiment, language, region.
- Content Tab: Keywords, phrases, exclusions (-word), wildcard search (custom*).
- Platform Tab: Social network, author type, media presence.
- Tags Tab: Custom or system-generated tags.
Saved Filters
Saved combinations of filters that can be applied across dashboards or mentions panels. Useful for standardising views across teams or recurring reports.
Mention
An individual unit of online conversation captured from platforms like social media, news, or forums. Each mention includes metadata (timestamp, source, author, sentiment).
Sentiment
Classifies a mention’s tone:
- Positive: Praise or satisfaction
- Neutral: Informational or emotionless
- Negative: Criticism or complaints
Priority Tag (RPCS)
System tags that reflect urgency:
- Risk: Threats to brand reputation.
- Purchase: Sales leads or intent.
- Cancel: Indicators of churn or dissatisfaction.
- Service: Customer support requests.
Tag
Custom or default labels that allow you to organise mentions by campaign, theme, or use case. Can be applied individually or in bulk.
Topic Wheel
A radial visualisation of parent and child topics in conversation. Helps identify key themes and their subcategories at a glance.
Topic Tree
The hierarchical structure that governs topic tagging in Analyse. Can be standardised across industries or customised per client.
Topic Co-Occurrence
A visual matrix showing how frequently different topics appear together in the same mention. Helps surface compound issues or related concerns.
Comparison Matrix
Tool to benchmark sentiment, topics, or volume across brands, time periods, or campaigns side-by-side.
Author
The individual or organisation responsible for a mention. Author metadata includes handle, platform, influence score, and engagement data.
Author Panel
Displays all mentions, sentiment breakdown, and engagement metrics related to a specific author. Helpful for influencer identification or complaint resolution.
Engagement Metric
Tracks likes, replies, shares, or retweets related to a mention. Used to determine the visibility and impact of specific conversations.
Influence Score
Measures an author's potential reach or impact, based on follower count or site authority. High-influence authors are weighted more heavily in risk and reputation analysis.
Alert
A customisable notification triggered by volume spikes, sentiment shifts, or high-priority mentions. Delivered via email, Slack, or in-app.
Verified
Indicates a data point has been quality-checked and confirmed by EQEngine. Applies to sentiment, relevance, and classification fields.
Volume
The number of mentions captured for a brand, topic, or time range. Often the starting point for time-series analysis and trend detection.
Volume Limit
The monthly quota of mentions available per client account. Volume overages can temporarily restrict dashboard access or trigger upgrade discussions.
Opportunity-to-See (OTS)
A proxy for reach based on the number of followers (for social) or domain traffic (for news). Aggregated OTS gives a potential audience size for a campaign or crisis.
Rewind
An internal data recovery tool used by DataEQ staff to backfill historical mentions. Useful when tracking unmonitored keywords retroactively (not visible to clients).
Root Brand
The primary entity being tracked in Analyse. All mentions and sub-brands nest under the root brand. Sentiment is always measured relative to the root.
Sub-Brand
Secondary topic or brand under a root brand. Used to categorise mentions, e.g., under product lines, spokespersons, or campaigns.
Source
The platform or domain where the mention originated—e.g., Twitter, Facebook, News24, Reddit.
Trash
Where irrelevant or off-topic mentions are hidden. Automatically managed via tagging rules or sentiment verification. Trashed mentions are deleted after 30 days.
Profile Authorisation
The process of connecting a brand’s social accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) to enable data collection, especially private message tracking.
Private Mentions
Content such as direct messages (DMs) that are only captured if profile authorisation is active. These are useful for service performance analysis but are not public-facing.
Data Source
Describes the type of mention origin: owned (brand pages), earned (media, customer posts), or shared (retweets, shares).
Word Cloud
A metric that shows top recurring words in a dataset, scaled by frequency. Useful for surfacing emerging terms or dominant themes.
Export
Mentions, dashboards, or metrics can be downloaded as:
- CSV for raw data
- PNG/PDF for presentation visuals
Exports are customisable based on filters applied.
Email Reports
Automated or ad-hoc email notifications that share dashboard snapshots or updates with selected recipients.
Setup Panel
Where users can manage tags, authorisations, user access, volume alerts, and notifications.
Notifications
Custom triggers for internal use that monitor thresholds like crowd usage, volume breaches, or tag saturation. These are typically not visible to clients but can be requested.
Custom Dashboard Category
Organisational folders that help group dashboards by department, goal, or project. Improves navigation and team workflow.
Drill Down Menu
Found in dashboard sections—allows interactive sorting by sentiment, brand, topic, or date without changing filters globally.
