Understanding Facebook Data Limitations
Learn what data is available (and what isn’t) when using Facebook as a data source in Analyse. Analyse supports data collection from Facebook Pages you own and have authorised. However, due to Meta’s API policies, not all data types are accessible. Knowing these limitations can help you set the right expectations and optimise your dashboard configurations.
What Facebook Data Is Available?
When a Facebook Page is successfully authorised in Analyse, you can access:
- Public comments on Page posts
- Private messages (DMs) sent to your Page
- Your own Page posts and metadata (e.g. post time, media, etc.)
- User names and profile pictures of those who engage (if permissions allow)
Note: All available data is limited to Pages you own and authorise. Third-party pages and groups are not supported.
What Facebook Data Is Not Available?
Due to Meta’s privacy and API restrictions, the following are not available:
- Comments or posts from non-owned Pages (including competitors)
- Any data from Facebook Groups
- Content or engagement from personal Facebook profiles
- Historical data prior to profile authorisation
- Mentions or tags not appearing on your Page
Best Practices for Facebook Integration
- Reauthorise profiles regularly—Facebook access tokens expire periodically
- Use Facebook in combination with other platforms (e.g. Twitter, Instagram) for more complete analysis
- Filter mentions by DMs vs. public comments to differentiate sentiment sources
- Make sure only admins perform the authorisation to avoid access issues
